The kindergarten group at the Uni-Campus daycare centre in Oldenburg received a visit from the police in April. But don't worry: nobody had done anything wrong.

The educational team invited the police contact officer to visit the morning circle and answer the children's questions.

Teacher Frauke Folkerts explains the background: "For a few weeks now, we have observed a strong interest in the police among many of the children. However, playing police often turned into a game where the policeman only chases and arrests." A harmless game? Eventually not, the teacher explains: "This led to some children seeing police officers as people you should be afraid of and run away from. We wanted to counter this image."

After around an hour and a half of patient answers, the children had learned a lot - for example, that even a real police officer sometimes uses a bike instead of a police car. But above all, they learned that the police are there to help and protect them. So there is no reason to run away.
