We offer you confidential, independent and free advice!
You can be sure: Our counselling is absolutely confidential, non-binding and, of course, free of charge.
We treat the information you entrust to us just as confidentially. More about data protection.
The two counsellors deputise for each other. So if you are unable to reach the contact person for your issue, you are welcome to contact the other counsellor. Not in all cases, but in many cases your question can also be clarified by him.
On the one hand, Jens Müller-Sigl examines ways in which you can finance your studies in the long term if the "normal" BAföG does not suit you. On the other hand, he is also the right person to contact in short-term financial emergencies. His specialisms are
- BAföG in special situations (proof of performance, change of specialisation, exceeding the funding period, ...)
- Aid programmes
- Credits and loans
All other areas of student finance are also covered.

Counselling with a focus on social benefits, jobbing while studying, ...
Heiko Groen's counselling focuses on studying with children, social benefits, health insurance and working while studying. However, he is also familiar with all other areas of student finance.
You can also find a lot of information on his counselling topics on our website. However, as different regulations often intertwine, especially in the area of social benefits, personal counselling is very useful. For example, the counsellor can also calculate which of several possible benefits is more advantageous for you.

Areas of the consultation
In theory, it's quite simple: parents are supposed to finance their children's first education - according to the law. Alternatively, BAföG steps in to cover your living expenses during your studies. If this "normal scenario" is sufficient for your circumstances, we won't see you in counselling. Often enough, however, the reality is different:
- Perhaps you didn't transfer to university straight after leaving school?
- Your parents can't pay your maintenance (in full) or there are arguments about it?
- Are you facing an unforeseen payment bottleneck that could be solved with our assistance programmes?
- Are you working alongside your studies and have to deal with the pitfalls of part-time jobs?
- Are you experiencing problems with child benefit for your parents because you are taking a break from your studies or there are forced breaks between periods of study?
- Are you experiencing difficulties with BAföG because your proof of performance is in doubt or the standard period of study has been exceeded?
- Are you living at home in a household that receives citizen's allowance and have to consider what a BAföG application or additional job means for the benefit calculation?
- Do you have children? Then the question of how you can finance your living costs during your studies is completely different.
- Housing benefit, unemployment benefit or citizen's allowance are state benefits that students should not actually receive - but sometimes the reality is different here too.
There are also questions that concern all students: We provide answers for first-semester students, students on leave of absence from their studies and graduates.
