The "Alte Färberei" is the Studierendenwerk's newest residential complex: the first students moved into the two-part complex with space for 177 students in 2018 and 2020. It primarily offers single flats (132), which vary in size between 22 and 33m². There are also some places in double apartments and shared flats for three or four people.
The bright, modern complex is within walking distance of the university's Haarentor campus and is surrounded by mature trees. The flats all have a kitchenette with hob, oven and fridge as well as a shower room. Apart from that, the flats are unfurnished except for a built-in wardrobe in the single flats and a storage room in the shared flats. All residents have access to a laundry room with washing machines and tumble dryers, which you can use with your CampusCard. Internet access is included in the rent for each flat.
Important: For some rooms in this residential complex, you need a residence entitlement certificate. This applies to the Alte Färberei 4.
Wheelchair-accessible flats
There are four individual flats in the "Alte Färberei" residential complex that are specially designed to meet the needs of wheelchair users. These fulfil all the structural requirements to be classed as wheelchair-accessible. This means that these flats are even more consistently equipped for wheelchair users than the existing Studentenwerk flats for disabled students, which are "only" wheelchair-friendly or disabled-friendly.
Equipment of the flats
Each flat is generously proportioned at around 33m2. The bathrooms and kitchens have been designed to be wheelchair accessible. In concrete terms, this means, for example, that the kitchen unit with cooker can be driven under, the wall units are lower and the fridge is set higher. In the bathroom, the shower and WC comply with DIN standards.
All switches, sockets, door and window handles and the peephole are also DIN-compliant.
Facilities in the complex
There are two disabled parking spaces on the grounds of the residential complex. The main entrances are equipped with electronic door openers, for which special chip cards are issued if required. The ground floor of the complex is completely barrier-free.
There is a separate room in the building for wheelchairs and other aids.
The laundry room in this part of the building can be accessed with a wheelchair. The washing machines are positioned slightly higher for easier loading from a wheelchair. The payment system is also positioned at an easily accessible height.
Application
We give priority to students who use a wheelchair when allocating accommodation. As an alternative to a disabled person's pass, you can also submit a medical certificate as proof of disability. In addition to this, a statement from the disability counselling service can be recognised as proof.
Important note: There may be longer waiting times for the disabled-friendly flats if they are not available. Therefore, please let us know as early as possible if you require one.
